Year 6 (Trips and theme days)

25.06.24 - 'Science Up Close' - Harwell Open Week Schools Event. Today year 6 enjoyed experiencing an exciting, hands on Science trip. We started our day sitting in the very cool lecture theatre and listened to the very exciting Chris Pearson (who is working on the current Ariel mission with the European Space Agency) on Exoplanets: alien worlds. It was great to learn about lots of planets made of diamonds, ice and even lava!. We then enjoyed exploring a huge range of exhibits in the Wonder Marquee, which was full of practical, hands-on engaging activities and demonstrations. Finally, we enjoyed making our own UV alien detectors and programming/coding with Beebots! Such a wonderful experience we were very lucky to be granted!

Quadkids Sports Day - Year 5 and 6 On Tuesday, our year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the QuadKids Sports Day event held at the fabulous athletics facilities at Tilsley Park. This event was kindly run and organised by the Bartholomew PE team and their sports leaders. All the children from Eynsham took part in the following four events: 600m run Vortex throw 75m run Standing long jump The children were amazing in the heat and really enjoyed participating. Lots of teamwork, resilience and determination was shown. We finished 4th overall out of the schools competing, which is a brilliant achievement. A huge well done to the year 5 and 6 pupils at Eynsham.

11.06.2024 I.M.P.S (Injury minimisation programme for schools) - Year 6 have taken part in I.M.P.S today and really enjoying learning how to keep themselves safe. We have have enjoyed learning what to do in an emergency situation including the recovery position, using a defibrillator and how to do CRP. We put our friend in the recovery position and learnt how to do CRP on a model. Back in the classroom, we watched various scenarios and learnt how to deal with a variety of emergency situations and how to keep ourselves safe. Finally, we really enjoyed learning what happens during a hospital visit, the types of equipment used, what x-rays are like and also we had our fingers plastered!

January 2024 -This term in ICT we are computer programming using the programme Python Turtle. Today year 6 enjoyed making a code (including subroutines) to draw various shapes. It was a real challenge for some of us but we worked as a team and our expert coders supported us. Next week we will continue to design and create our own codes.

November - Design and Technology Project . We are very busy working on our current DT project, here is our design specification - Your task this term is to design and create a waistcoat with a winter theme for your favourite cuddly toy! You will be completing the following skills during this unit: using a template when pinning panels onto fabric, marking and cutting fabric accurately in accordance with your design, sewing a strong running stitch (making small, neat stitches following the edge), tying strong knots, decorating your waistcoat, learning different decorative stitches and evaluating your work. So far we have loved designing our waistcoats for our teddy bears, we have drawn and cut the material and it is held together with safety pins ready for our sewing skills next week!

Woodlands day 4 Update - Another fabulous day here at Woodlands, thankfully (as predicted) no issues here due to bad weather and for many groups a mainly dry, slightly chilly day. Mr Wyatt's group enjoyed a beautiful waterfall walk, two groups were caving, one group canoeing (only a few children rowing into the bushes today) and the final group remained on site and completed the high-ropes, zip wire and climbing wall challenges. For dinner the children enjoyed veggie pasta bolognaise, salad and garlic bread. Followed by the 90's classic dessert - Viennetta, which went down a storm. The children are currently enjoying a round robin of activities (full of sweets) which include packing, a movie, playing games, packing, evaluating our experience and finally, visiting the shop! We really have had a fantastic time and i'm sure once your children had has a rest over theweekend, they will happily share all their awesome memories with you. Every child has rotated and completed every activity during the week - so please ask them about each one and hear how proud they are of their achievements. Hopefully this will jog their memories when they forget all the amazing things they did. We will keep you updated tomorrow once we have departed and we have an eta.

Lovely Edward enjoying his amazing birthday cake, which was truly scrumptious! As you can see, we had to quickly cut it into 60 slices before Mr Clack could eat the lot!

Woodlands Day 3 Update - Another wonderful day here in glorious Wales; the weather has been very kind to us, despite what reports suggests, so all activities have been thoroughly enjoyed once again. Mrs Bayliss has joined us and loved her first day on the canal, with only a few children falling in when the standing up challenge took place. Two groups of children all climbed the wall successfully today and loved the high-ropes course and whizzing down the zipwire. Mr Clack enjoyed the caves with his group today and seeing the lesser horseshoe bats up close and personal. We have just enjoyed a delicious dinner of chicken 'chip shop' curry and poppadoms, followed by jam sponge and custard! We are just going outside now to take part in another orienteering challenge around the grounds by torchlight. Eynsham are having a fabulous time!

Woodlands Update Day 2 - Another wonderful day here on our residential. The sun has been shining for most of the day and groups have enjoyed either caving or canoeing off site in the Welsh mountains or climbing and high-ropes course on site. For dinner we enjoyed a delicious helping of sausage and mash (carrots/peas/gravy) followed by a scrummy homemade slab of chocolate brownie and cream! After dinner we loved singing Happy Birthday to Edward! Huge thanks for the fudge cake - this will be enjoyed by the children when they come in from orienteering - currently happening outside by torch light around the grounds. Please enjoy looking at the pictures from the first few days. We really are having a fabulous time; many fears faced, confidence and friendships growing continuously and team-building galore!

Woodlands Update - Day 1 smiley

We are having a fabulous first day here at Woodlands (pics to come tomorrow)

After arriving safely, the children made their own beds and then enjoyed their packed lunches exploring the grounds. The children were then kitted out with waterproofs, boots, wellies and rucksacks before beginning the afternoon team building activities. This included many challenges such as: rope swing, mystery maze, wall climb, human pyramid, spider ball and tyre jump. All the children really enjoyed these challenges and have shown amazing teamwork. We have just enjoyed chicken goujons, chips and beans for for dinner, followed by apple crumble. We are just heading off for a mountain walk and to do some star gazing at the top.

The children are a real credit to the school!
