A trip to the post office. 06.12.24

After looking at our book of the week,The Jolly Christmas postman, we decided to send Father Christmas some pictures that we had drawn of him to decorate his workshop.
We talked about putting all the pictures into an envelope, but how would the post man know where to send it? We looked back at our story and saw that there was writing on the front of the envelopes and this was called the address, and we also saw that there was a stamp on them too which pays for the post to be sent.
We discussed where we would get the stamp from? the post office and decided to take a walk to the one in the village.
When we got to the post office we showed the cashier our letter, he weighed it and gave us a stamp he explained where it had to go on the letter and that it then needed to go in to the post box out side.
We hope our letter arrives safely and that farther Christmas might have time to reply.

The children were absolutely brilliant walking through the village to the post office, they held their partners hand all the way and followed all the instructions. We talked about how to cross the roads  safely, stopping looking and listening and not running.
Well done ducklings

Autumn Leaf man 18.11.24

We have been looking at the book leaf man, following the children being interested in the leaves changing colour in the garden.
On Friday we went on a autumn walk around the school looking for signs of autumn and all the different leaves.

The leaves were crunchy under our feet and rustled when we kicked them, some where smooth to touch and other lumpy and bumpy.

In the book leaf man get blown away by the wind, we talked about where leaf man might have ended up and decided to create our own leaf man using different size and coloured leaves.

Binny’s Diwali 08.11.24

This week in Ducklings we have been reading the book Binny's Diwali and learning about the festival of light. We learnt how lamps are lit, called diva which guide good luck into their homes and chase, away the darkness.  We made our own Diya's out of clay we found that the clay was cold and hard until we rolled it between our hands into a ball using our fingers to pinch and squish it into a bowl shape, we used sequins to decorate it.  Miss Denney decorated our hands with Mehndi patterns, these signify good luck and prosperity.
Some of us made rangoli  patterns these consist of bright colours, intricate patterns and motifs.

 Sensory messy play. 25.10.24

We’ve enjoyed lots of sensory activities this week, some being a little spooky ready for Halloween next week.
We used lots of describing words during our play, the rice was smooth but hard and crunchy, the spaghetti was slippy, slimy and squishy, the gloop and spiders was hard but soft, cold, runny. The peas were our favourite, they started off cold, hard and icey, the when they began to melt they became soft, squishy, squidgy, and flat. The children loved squashing them so we added potato mashers.
We added herbs to our playdough the children realised that if the rubbed the herbs he smell got stronger.

Funnybones 07.10.24

This week we have been looking at the book Funnybones, we’ve looked at how we can’t see our bones under our skin and we need a special camera to take a picture called an X-ray. It uses a special light to help see our bones. We have learnt the word skeleton and how it holds our body up. We practiced out cutting skills making skeletons using straws and putting dog back together like in the story. Mrs Neath found a big Funnybones floor book and the children have loved looking at it and retelling the story using the pictures.

We have really enjoyed exploring our bodies and learning different names of the bones. We all remembered the name for the bones in our fingers as it sounded sooo funny, phalanges! We watched a funny skeleton dance and joined in. https://youtu.be/e54m6XOpRgU?feature=shared

Some of us helped Miss Denney finish our funny bones display by making the starry night sky and the houses for the dark dark street, we used boxes to make houses and flats as well as drawing round shapes to make paper houses. We spoke about what our houses were like and what type of houses we see on the way to school, did any of them look like the ones pictured in our story?

Welcome to Foundation!

We have started our topic 'Marvellous Me!' across Early Years, we have been looking at our faces and the different features which we have that make each of us UNIQUE. We then tried to paint or draw our faces in a variety of ways. Our Cygnets (2-3) have tried to build their faces using paper plates to help with the shape. Our Ducklings (3-4) have tried to paint the different features using a variety of different shapes, sizes and colours. Our Foundation (Robins and Kingfishers) used mirrors to look our faces and draw the different features using pencil. We think they look FANTASTIC, Well done Early Years!
