World book day 06.03.25

We enjoyed taking part in world book day and dressing up as our favourite characters.

All the children looked amazing, they enjoyed telling us about who they had dressed up as.
We have played a book quiz to see if we could guess the story from some clues. Year 4 came over to share stories with us.
At the end of day we chose which story we wanted to listen to. Mrs Whitehouse read The Day the Crayons Quit, Mrs Sheilds read Room on the Broom and Mrs Neath read Supertato.

What a fantastic day!

People who help us.

We have been looking at people who help us this term. The children have used their knowledge of people who help us along side their phonics and writing skills to write CVC words, captions and sentences.

Fire work dancing

Through our topic celebrations we have looked at Bonfire night and fireworks. During Pe we all took it in turns to play instruments and dance with ribbons. We were very impressed by the children's listening skills and their ability to change their movements when the music was loud or quiet. The children were all able to move around the hall negotiating spaces whilst expressing how the music was making them feel.

Shadows!

In the first two weeks of our second term we have looked at the book Little glow. As part of this we have looked at sources of light and what happens when they are blocked by an opaque object. The children really enjoyed experimenting with torches, making shadow puppets and drawing around toy animal shadows. We also took our investigations outside when we used ourselves to block the sun and make a shadow so our friends could draw around them.

First term In reception!

We have had a brilliant first term at school. We are so very proud of our children and how quickly they have picked up their new routines. It has been a exciting first term full of making friends, exploring messy play, learning all about ourselves and celebrating all our differences. We have read some amazing stories that have gave us some lovely new vocabulary, whilst allowing us to build on our imaginations. Phonics is now in full swing and we are amazed by how quick the children have picked up their new sound, blending and writing.

The Three Little Pigs!

We have had a fabulous time exploring the book The three little pigs. The children have taken part in a Three little pigs themed Drawing club and we spent a whole afternoon looking at how we could build a sturdy house out of the materials around our class room. The children worked in teams to select their materials and build their houses, it was lovely to see their team work and communication skills. It was also amazing to see some of the out side of the box thinking about how or what they could use to build their houses.

Cogges Farm
We had a lovely morning at Cogges Farm - so busy - the children listened and joined in the activities well. We made paper plant pots and planted wheat seeds; we then looked at wheat and barley ears, used a flail to separate the wheat from the chaf before we had a go at grinding some grains into flour. Then into the kitchen to weigh out the ingredients to make bread and everyone had a stir of the dough - it was quite sticky! We rolled out individual portions of the dough to make our own bread roll to take home, learning how to knead with the palm of our hand. We also had time to feed the goats, look at the chickens and go on an egg hunt as well as looking round the kitchen garden. We finished by watching a puppet show of the Little Red Hen story, then time for lunch in the barn!

Marvellous ME!

We have been looking at the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and thinking about our feelings and emotions. We have learnt new vocabulary to describe the Colour Monster e.g. discombobulated, enraged, sobbing. ‘Funky Fingers’ has started and children are coming in the morning to an activity working very hard to strengthen our hands ready for writing.

Welcome to Foundation!

We have started our topic 'Marvellous Me!' across Early Years, we have been looking at our faces and the different features which we have that make each of us UNIQUE. We then tried to paint or draw our faces in a variety of ways. Our Cygnets (2-3) have tried to build their faces using paper plates to help with the shape. Our Ducklings (3-4) have tried to paint the different features using a variety of different shapes, sizes and colours. Our Foundation (Robins and Kingfishers) used mirrors to look our faces and draw the different features using pencil. We think they look FANTASTIC, Well done Early Years!
