World Book Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day in Year 2 this week. Everyone dressed up in amazing costumes! We also learned about comics and created our own, completed a book-themed scavenger hunt in the sunshine and even had a 'Bookie Brekkie' where we ate croissants whilst Miss Freeman and Mrs Ledden-Fletcher read us their favourite picture books.

International Day

This week we celebrated International Day at school. Year 2 spent the day learning all about China. We tasted fortune cookies, learned how to use chopsticks, learned the story of Chinese New Year and Chinese inventions. Then, we linked our learning about China with our art unit. Using a photo as a guide, we created a collage of The Great Wall of China focussing on creating different textures for the different elements of the picture.

Exploring Microhabitats

In Year 2, our science topic this term is 'Living things and their habitats'. In today's lesson, we recapped our knowledge of habitats and learned what a microhabitat is. We then headed down to the marsh to investigate which microhabitats we could find there and how many living things were in each microhabitat. We recorded our findings and concluded that our marsh is a fantastic habitat for lots of living things as it provides all they need to stay alive.

Colour Mixing

Year 2 have had a fantastic start to 2025. One part of our learning we particularly enjoyed this week was our art lesson where we developed our knowledge of colour mixing. We mixed each of the primary colours with another primary colour to see if we could make a secondary colour. We then added a little more of the second colour each time to see how this made the colour change further. We hope you like looking at our explorations!

R.E. - Making Christmas cards for Oaken Holt Care Home

This term in R.E. we have been learning about how Christians believe that God sent Jesus as a gift for the world and that they celebrate this at Christmas time. We have learned all about the Christmas nativity story and how Christians believe Jesus was kind. Therefore, we decided to make Christmas cards for the residents of a local nursing/residential home as an act of kindness. We depicted the nativity story on the front and wrote a message inside. We really hope our cards put a smile on the recipients' faces!

Wonderful Writing!

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working towards writing an adventure narrative inspired by our trip to the Tower of London and our class book Katie in London. We have been learning to use adverbs, prepositions and expanded noun phrases so we did our best to include these in our writing. We hope you enjoy reading our stories.

Our trip to The Tower of London

We had an amazing time visiting London this week to learn more about The Great Fire of London. We had lots of fun exploring the Tower of London as we got to see the Crown Jewels, the Bloody Tower, the beautiful ravens and much more. We also had a 'Fire, Fire' workshop where we got to re-enact the events of the fire.

P.E. - Teambuilding

This week in P.E. we have been working on our teamwork skills. We had a go at completing challenges including making a shape using a skipping rope where we were not allowed to move where our hand was on the rope, holding hands in a circle and moving a hoop all around the circle, and 'Cross the River' where we were in groups of five with three hoops and we had to get across with only one person in a hoop at a time. We found all these activities challenging but we were able to develop our teamwork skills and get the job done!

Black History Month - Reggie Laurent

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, each year group was given a famous Black artist to study. Year 2 had abstract artist, Reggie Laurent. We looked at different examples of his work and discussed what we noticed. We then enjoyed creating our own piece inspired by his work. Reggie Laurent creates art to reflect the diversity in the world and it was great for us to do the same.

Black History Month

October is Black History Month and we are celebrating this at Eynsham. Each year group learned about a significant Black person from history and Year 2 had Nelson Mandela. We read a book about him and watched some videos which included speeches he had given. We then wrote a fact file about him and added our own illustrations. We were amazed by his amazing life story and how he showed kindness and forgiveness!

The Great Fire of London

In class we made Tudor houses. Then we burnt them to show how the fire spread across London. The children loved it.

Art - Map it out

Look at our amazing maps we have made using block printing. We had so much fun!

Vlad and the Great Fire of London

In our English lessons we are using the story Vlad and the Great Fire of London as our hook for our writing. This week we have focused on writing a diary entry from the perspective of Vlad the Flee.  We have tried really hard to include expanded noun phrases and conjunctions.  Take a read of our work that we are so proud of.

Felt making

In art we are exploring maps and abstract art.  Today we made felt and tried to replicate part of a map. Look through the pictures to see how they turned out.
