Puffins

Wednesday 22nd October 2025

Today in year 1, the children had great fun experimenting with chalk to create spooky images and then using fruit and vegetables to block print pumpkins onto their designs designs. We then used our coloured chalks to create firework displays on black paper.

This week the children in Puffins have visited the Eynsham Museum, here are some photos of the trip.

Please see this week's newsletter for more information about our trip!

Friday 10th October - World Mental Health Day

In year 1, to mark World Mental Health day, the children were asked to bring in a small soft toy from home. We used these toys for our mindfulness activities and to show children how they can use their toys to help with big feelings. First, we were ‘texture detectives’ and spent time just noticing things about our toys e.g. shapes, colours, texture, smell. This helps to refocus the mind and feel calm. Our toys then joined us for a yoga session ending with our toys on our tummies and we noticed how they would move up and down as we breathed in and out. We’ve looked at stories with our cuddly toy about our feelings like; The Colour Monster, Ruby Has a Worry and Worrysaurus. Lastly, we shared our feelings and worries with our toys to know that talking and sharing what's on our mind can help to make the worry feel smaller.

Time Adverbials

Today in English, we have continued to look at our instructions of 'How To Wash a Unicorn'. We had to put these instructions in order and then think about which time adverbials would match and that these need to go at the start of the sentence to help us with the order.

Computing

In computing we have been using Beebots! The children have really enjoyed using these floor robots - giving instructions and watching it move! We have been learning about what the buttons do, how we can code it to get to where it want it to go, predicting where it will finish and debugging.

Today, in Art, the children have been working together to collaboratively create a piece of artwork based on the sea. The children recapped their learning from last lesson on the different types of lines they learnt about, they were able to incorporate this in their joint artwork today. They have used different drawing materials to make their different lines and marks whilst listening to music, their lines reflect this.

Today the children were looking at sources about the Eynsham Railway Station. During our class discussion, we discovered that there were different stops on the way through to Eynsham Railway station-the line was called ‘The Witney Railway’-we went on a trip to the different stations to find out what they were! Once we had discovered these, we read the sources to find out more information and had a go at answering questions about them.

W.C 8.9.25

Today the children have been counting to 10 using a multilink staircase to help them. We counted forwards and backwards and started from different numbers to help understand that the numbers are in a sequence that stays the same before or after.

5.9.25

Today in English, we went to 'Mythico Wood' to find the different subjects we could see. We learnt that a subject is who or what the sentence is about. It could be a person, place or thing. Partners made a list of the subjects like unicorn, leaves, etc. We will use these later to help build our sentences.

5.9.25 - English

W.C 1.9.25

Today in English, we completed a scavenger hunt to find matching creatures; some of these were mythical and some were real. We used these creatures, a song and the front cover of the book to help us create a prediction of what our new class text was going to be about.

W.C 1.9.25

Today in RE, the children have been beginning to understand the concept of what a creator is. They explored something their teacher had created and how it feels to be given feedback on a creation. It was then time to make their own creation; the children went on a scavenger hunt to find things in the outside area to include in their creation. (Come back for the photos!)
