28.1.26
Today in Geography we have been learning about the different compass points. To do this we firstly had to think about different ways to remember the letters, for example Never Eat Slimy Worms. After this, we drew compasses on the tables and then wrote the words into our books using Widgets to help us.

22.1.26 - Year 1 Writing

Year 1s have been working hard with their writing and handwriting this week as they retold the story of 'Mama Panya's Pancakes'. We learnt and rehearsed a model text to help us and it was brilliant to see children challenging themselves to write parts in their own way or add their own adjectives. Here are just a few examples.

6.01.25

Today, we have investigated how odd and even numbers can be partitioned. We partitioned odd numbers by sharing between two people and noticed that they don’t share fairly because there is always an odd one out. We then used part whole models, counters or numicon to help us solve an investigation of what happens when two odd numbers are added together.

Mrs Bayliss says that when you add two odd numbers, you always get an even number.

17.12.25

Today in year 1 we have been creating Windmills! The children learnt all about becoming Design Technicians and what this meant-we realised that we do this all the time when we're creating things. The children learnt about the different parts of a windmill, they had to be able to recall this vocabulary and label their design with these special words. We then went onto understanding what a good structure needs, creating sails for our windmills and attaching them together-this part was really tricky! The children learnt many skills during our DT day, one of the biggest ones being perseverance! Well done Year 1.

24.11.25 - Road Safety

Today, year 1 have learnt about how to cross the road safely using key steps like wait, look and listen. We then practised this on the playground. We choose some children to pretend to be cars to come down the ‘road’ and see if children spot them before they cross.

12.11.25

During our History topic, The Lost Railway, we have been learning about Cooper's Marmalade. We learnt about key vocabulary that included exporting and importing oranges and marmalade. The children really enjoyed tasting the Marmalade during the lesson.

6.11.25 - Science Autumn Walk

In Science, the children went on an autumn walk and used a checklist for things that they could find in our playground and field. We discussed what we should wear for today’s weather and children were challenged to compare these signs of autumn with other seasons and how we know it is autumn. We talked about things that happen around us in different seasons and if any signs of winter may be beginning to show. We then made our weather monitoring equipment, which we set up ready for measuring from next week.

W.C 21.10.25

This week the children in Penguins have visited the Eynsham Museum. They had great fun lkearning about the local history of the village and the railway line.

Wednesday 22nd October 2025

Today in year 1, the children had great fun experimenting with chalk to create spooky images and then using fruit and vegetables to block print pumpkins onto their designs. We then used our coloured chalks to create fireworks displays on black paper.

Penguins Art: Wednesday 8th October 2025

W.C 6.10.25

Today, in Art, the children have been working together to collaboratively create a piece of artwork based on the sea. The children recapped their learning from last lesson on the different types of lines they learnt about, they were able to incorporate this in their joint artwork today. They have used different drawing materials to make their different lines and marks whilst listening to music, their lines reflect this.

W.C 15.9.25

Today the children were looking at sources about the Eynsham Railway Station. During our class discussion, we discovered that there were different stops on the way through to Eynsham Railway station-the line was called ‘The Witney Railway’-we went on a trip to the different stations to find out what they were! Once we had discovered these, we read the sources to find out more information and had a go at answering questions about them

W.C 8.9.25

Today the children have been counting to 10 using a multilink staircase to help them. We counted forwards and backwards and started from different numbers to help understand that the numbers are in a sequence that stays the same before or after.

5.9.25

Today in English, we went to 'Mythico Wood' to find the different subjects we could see. We learnt that a subject is who or what the sentence is about. It could be a person, place or thing. Partners made a list of the subjects like unicorn, leaves, etc. We will use these later to help build our sentences.

5.9.25 - English

W.C 1.9.25

Today in English, we completed a scavenger hunt to find matching creatures; some of these were mythical and some were real. We used these creatures, a song and the front cover of the book to help us create a prediction of what our new class text was going to be about.

W.C 1.9.25

Today in RE, the children have been beginning to understand the concept of what a creator is. They explored something their teacher had created and how it feels to be given feedback on a creation. It was then time to make their own creation; the children went on a scavenger hunt to find things in the outside area to include in their creation. (Come back for the photos!)
