What is the PTA?

When your child starts at Eynsham Community Primary School, you become a part of the community of parents, carers, teachers, staff and friends of the school known as the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

The PTA exists to raise funds to enhance our children’s education, as well as to create connections between home, school, and the local community. Together we organize events, sales, fundraisers, sponsorship, donations and more – as well as regular social gatherings.

The PTA is led by a small, hardworking committee elected at each year’s AGM, supported by our amazing volunteers who donate as much or as little of their time, ideas and skills as they choose. We are also lucky to have the enthusiastic input of teachers and staff. The committee and volunteers are a friendly group and love welcoming new people, so please do join us at our meetings, volunteer for a committee or organizer role, let us have your ideas, and help champion our activities.

How does the PTA spend its money?

In recent years, money raised by the PTA has helped:

  • fund Science Week
  • subsidise transport on school trips
  • enhance outdoor play areas
  • purchase school technology
  • support the trim trail extension and other lunchtime resources
  • maintain the swimming pool
  • subsidise cello and violin lessons for Year 3 and 5
  • buy new play equipment and books
  • support the popular Year 6 leavers' hoodies

and much, much more.

Specific school spending needs are proposed and discussed at PTA committee meetings, and a democratic vote by committee members, staff, and volunteers in attendance then determines how the funds are allocated. PTA funds are not generally spent on improving the fabric of the school building (this is the responsibility of the school's governing body), but are sometimes used to enhance the school environment or play facilities. The money raised is intended for the ‘extras’ (not provided by the school budget) that make our children’s school experience richer and more fulfilling.

The money we raise is usually spent fairly quickly.  That way, you can be sure that in supporting the PTA, your child/ren, alongside their friends and teachers will rapidly feel the benefit.

As a registered charity the PTA must abide by Charity Commission rules and regulations, and is bound by a constitution which sets out rules about how we operate as a PTA and how we conduct ourselves. Being a registered charity gives us many extra benefits:

  • We can claim Gift Aid
  • We can raise funds more easily from grant-giving trusts, local businesses etc.
  • We can take advantage of charity matched giving schemes
.

My business would like to help. What can we do?

Join the Eynsham Community Primary School Business Partnership Project and help equip the children of today with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to be your successful employees of tomorrow.

The school has a 10-year strategy plan to improve its buildings, make its classrooms fit for today’s education and become a flagship school for science and technology. They cannot do this alone and would really appreciate the expertise and support of local business people who help make up the thriving community of Eynsham. If this is something you could consider, please talk to the school office to discuss how you may be able to help.

As a registered charity Eynsham Community Primary PTA can also benefit from charity matched giving schemes. Companies or businesses can pledge to donate an amount of money relating to the amount that an employee(s) donates or fundraises for the school PTA. Get in touch for more information about setting up a charity matched giving scheme in your workplace.
