All about Mae Jemison
For Black History Month, we have learnt all about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel into space! We discovered how she followed her dreams to become an astronaut. Inspired by Mae, we used 2D shapes to design and build our own rockets, developing our creativity, problem-solving and understanding of the world. Have a look to see what we created!
Fun with pumpkins
We have enjoyed using pumpkins to help us with our team work, communication language skills as well as our gross and fine motor skills. We really loved playing with the seeds in the water trays, pinching them out of the water.
Kingfishers and Robins went to Cogges Farm!
We have been reading the book Little Red Hen in class and to make our learning come alive we went to Cogges Farm to take part in all the same things that the Little Red Hen does in the book. We made bread, planted a seed of grain and even ground some wheat. We also got to see lots of animals and fed some of them.
Autumn sat pin exploring in Robins
In class, we have been learning our first initial phonics sounds so we decided to use lots of autumnal things to create these letters.
A Busy Week in Robins!
We have had lots of fun in Robins this week, with plenty of exciting opportunities to learn, explore and get creative!
As part of our learning about our bodies, the children enjoyed drawing around themselves and exploring their own body shapes. We have also been getting creative by making our own insects, showing great resilience and perseverance as we practised our cutting skills.
During our phonics activities, we went on a sound hunt around the garden, looking for objects beginning with the sounds /t/ and /i/.
The children also explored the importance of making others feel happy by saying “hello”. This linked to our story Hello, Hello, which encouraged us to think about how we can make others feel welcome and included.
In maths, we have been working hard to develop our number knowledge, focusing on numbers 1, 2 and 3 through a range of fun and practical activities.
What a Fantastic Start to Reception!
What a fantastic start to school our Robins have had! We have loved getting to know the children and watching them begin to build friendships as they explore their new classroom and outdoor environment.
The children are becoming familiar with our daily routines and are settling into Reception life beautifully. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explore new surroundings, discover exciting activities and begin to develop their independence.
A big thank you to all our families for your support in helping the children settle in so well. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing and making special memories together! 💛
