Our Cygnets have been exploring the nursery rhyme Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, using it as inspiration for lots of exciting, hands-on learning experiences! ๐
We have been learning all about how we look after ourselves and others through imaginative role-play. The children enjoyed pretending to brush their teeth, visiting the hairdressers, washing cars and caring for babies. These activities provide wonderful opportunities to develop our communication and language skills, practise every day self-care routines and build an understanding of how we can look after ourselves and the world around us.
Our little learners have also been getting creative! We used toilet roll tubes to make our very own mulberry bushes, exploring different materials and developing our fine motor skills as we created. ๐ The children also made beautiful autumn sun catchers, exploring seasonal colours and light while celebrating the changing world around us. ๐๐จ
Our Cygnets have been enjoying exploring the outdoors and collecting lots of exciting autumn treasures! ๐ฟ We have been using our special finds for a lovely autumn-inspired leaf-printing activity.
The children carefully dipped their leaves into the paint and pressed them onto the paper, using their developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. They were fascinated to see the beautiful leaf shapes and outlines appearing on the page! It was a wonderful opportunity to explore textures, experiment with mark-making and discover what happens when we press different objects into paint. ๐จ
As we explored, we talked about the changing seasons and the colours we see in autumn. We discussed why we had chosen brown, green and red paint, encouraging the children to observe the world around them and begin to notice how nature changes throughout the year.
Our Cygnets have been busy exploring Harvest Festival and autumn on the farm, enjoying lots of exciting, hands-on activities to spark their curiosity and support their learning!
The children had great fun taking part in animal listening games, making and identifying different farm animal sounds. We have been developing our listening skills and communication as we guessed which animals we could hear. ๐ท๐
Our little farmers have also been busy getting our muddy farm animals squeaky clean! ๐งผ The children loved washing the dirty animals, using their hands and fingers to scrub away the mud and developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination along the way.
Creativity has been at the heart of our farm adventures, too! The children have explored different materials and techniques to create their own farm animals, expressing their ideas and discovering new ways to make marks and create. We have also enjoyed lots of imaginative role play using farm animal masks, bringing our favourite animals to life through sounds, movements and pretend play. ๐ฎ๐
Last week, our Cygnets enjoyed a fun and exciting sensory painting activity as we explored making footprints with our feet!
We set up a tray of paint and a long strip of paper, giving the children the opportunity to explore a new way of making marks. With gentle encouragement and support from our adults, the children dipped their feet into the paint before carefully walking along the paper, holding an adult’s hand for support.
Once we reached the end, we stopped to look at the wonderful marks our little feet had left behind! The children were able to see how their movements created patterns and prints on the paper, and some were so excited that they chose to have another go! ๐
We loved seeing our Cygnets' curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm as they explored this messy, hands-on experience. Sometimes, the simplest activities create the biggest smiles and the best learning opportunities! ๐๐ฃ
Finger Painting Fun ! ๐จ
This morning, our Cygnets enjoyed exploring paint using their fingers to create their own marks on paper!
The children dipped their fingers into the paint and experimented with dabbing them onto the paper, noticing the different marks they could make. Some children chose to dab the paint, while others enjoyed using their fingers to spread the paint across the paper, exploring the textures and patterns they could create.
This activity encouraged the children to develop their creativity and explore their senses, while also strengthening the small muscles in their fingers and hands.
Exploring Our Bodies in Cygnets! ๐ฆข
As part of our ‘All About Me’ topic, our Cygnets took part in a fun body outline activity!
Working in a small group, an adult drew around one of the children to create a body template. The children then had the opportunity to get creative and decorate the outline using a variety of colours.
Throughout the activity, we talked about different parts of the body, naming features such as our head, eyes, ears and nose. The children were also encouraged to name the colours they were using, helping to develop their communication and language skills.
This activity provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore body awareness, learn new vocabulary and express their creativity.
All About Me in Cygnets! ๐ฆข
This week, our Cygnets have begun exploring our new topic for this term, ‘All About Me’!
The children enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirrors and talking about what makes us all unique. We discussed our facial features, noticing that we have two eyes, a nose, a mouth and hair. The children then used paper plates to create their very own self-portraits, having a go at recreating their own features. It was lovely to see their creativity and developing awareness of themselves!
We have also been making the most of our outdoor garden. The children enjoyed exploring the mud kitchen, using the stepping stones to practise their balance, and working together to move the seesaws back and forth using their whole bodies.
Through these activities, the children have been developing their physical skills, coordination and confidence, while having lots of fun exploring their environment.
Cygnets Are Settling In! ๐ฆข
Our Cygnets have been doing wonderfully as they settle into nursery life! It has been lovely to see the children becoming more familiar with their new surroundings, getting to know their grown-ups and beginning to build friendships with their peers.
The children have been exploring their environment, discovering new toys and resources, and enjoying a variety of exciting activities both indoors and outdoors. They are gradually becoming more confident as they learn our daily routines and develop their independence.
We are so proud of how well our little Cygnets are settling in. It is wonderful to see their confidence growing, friendships blossoming and their little personalities shining through each day.
